Plan your trip!
We would like to advise that Wheatleigh Road, approximately 49km south of Charleville, off the Charleville – Bollon Road has been opened as a light vehicle (cars, 4WDs and caravans) detour only.
Signage has been installed along the detour to assist motorists.
This detour uses mainly unsealed roads with 14 narrow grids. Motorists should slow down and drive to conditions.
This detour will allow motorists to travel between Charleville and Cunnamulla via Wyandra.
Note, motorists, in particular those towing caravans or similar vehicles, are advised to plan their trip before using this route as it features long lengths of unsealed, gravel roads.
Suggested alternative route to Queensland from Bourke - Type 1 Road Trains only:
Type 1 (two trailers) road trains can turn right from Bourke to Walgett then to Dirranbandi via the Castlereagh Highway, then to St George, left onto the Balonne Highway, then right to Mitchell via the Mitchell - St George Road then to Augathella (or Charleville).
Note: Good sealed road
Suggested alternative route to Queensland from Bourke - Type 2 Road Trains:
Type 2 (three trailers) and Type 1 (two trailers) road trains can travel from Bourke through to Cunnamulla, turn left towards Thargomindah, then right to Quilpie via the Thargomindah - Quilpie Road, then right to Charleville.
Motorists, in particular those towing caravans or similar vehicles, are advised to plan their trip before using alternate routes that may feature long lengths of unsealed, gravel roads.
Note: This is a dirt road in sections - drivers should monitor 131940 for changing conditions
