As a result of the 2011/12 wet season, several state controlled roads in the far north of Queensland received severe damage. The road links affected are an essential part of far north Queensland. The affected road network services local and regional communities and agricultural industries and tourism.

The Mount Lindesay Highway is a hive of activity as the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) fixes up flood related damage to the highway.
