Introducing the 131940 Twitter Accounts and Mobile site

131940 Twitter Accounts

Having the ability to access and view Traffic and Travel Information as it occurs is becoming increasing vital. As a result of this need the 131940 web team are proud to announce the trial of six Twitter accounts as another mechanism to increase accessibility to TTI for all road users.

The six Twitter accounts have been logically and geographically aligned with the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ 12 regions and include 74 local government authorities. These accounts are:

Twitter Accounts Relevant Regions
131940_Metro Metropolitan region
131940_FNNQ Far North and Northern regions
131940_CWNW Central and North West regions
131940_DDSW Darling Downs and South West regions
131940_MWFWB Mackay Whitsunday, Fitzroy and Wide Bay Burnett Regions
131940_NCSC North and South Coast regions

Tweets will occur automatically once information is published on 131940 website it will appear in followers tweet feeds instantly. At this stage Twitter will only generate tweets for unplanned events. If information relating to an event is updated on 131940 website tweets will be reposted to the tweet feed with the most current details. Tweets also include a link to further information allowing followers to get the most out of tweets relevant to them. Users won’t be able to tweet back to 131940 and if you have any travel or traffic information to report please continue to do so by calling the 131940 Traffic Report Line.

You do not require a twitter account to view tweets, all you have to do is type
twitter.com/131940_<specific region name> into the address bar of your browser to view the news feed. By changing the region name you can view information relevant to the specific region, which will be helpful for people travelling through 2 or more regions on a journey.

Visit the FAQs section which includes a more extensive list of the Local Government Authorities included in each of the above accounts.

131940 Mobile Site

The 131940 Traffic and Travel Information (TTI) website team has been working in conjunction with the developers to deliver the 131940 mobile website.  This is in response to the need for greater mobile accessibility to traffic and travel information (TTI) for road users.

The 131940 mobile site is has been launched and is targeted for use by touch screen smartphones, including:
  • iPhone (iOs 3+)
  • Andriod based phones (2.1+)
  • Nokia (Symbian 1+)
  • Blackberry (Torch 9800+)
  • Windows Mobile based phones (6.5+)
The information on the 131940 mobile website allows the user to customise the TTI they wish to view. This can be done by the user entering the details of their most frequent journey or area where most of their commuting is undertaken.

The 131940 mobile website also uses GPRS technology as an additional function allowing road users to view TTI events in their vicinity.  The GPRS functioning on the users handset must be enabled to allow 131940 mobile website to use their current location.

All web cameras are also available through the mobile site functionality.
