Hope Island Road duplication work well underway
The Hope Island Road duplication has been prioritised under the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program (SEQUIPP) and is essential to improving traffic capacity and safety, and to cater for regional growth over the next 20 years.
The project has caused minor delays to traffic during construction, however once completed will give motorists a clear run through the area.

To date, the project has seen:
- almost 17000 tonnes of deep lift asphalt laid
- 7500 meters of subsoil drained
- 5700 meters of kerb and channelling installed
- 2700 meters of underground drainage pipes laid
- almost 80000 cubic meters of embankment fill imported.
Work on Stage 2 of the project is expected to be completed by Christmas 2009. Stage 2 includes:
- a service road from Crescent Avenue to the tavern on the northern side of Hope Island Road, providing local access
- two new signalised intersections at Crescent Avenue and Mervyn Thomas Drive
- duplication of the road between the Cova Boulevard roundabout and Boykambil Esplanade.
Stage 3 is scheduled to begin in October 2009, with completion in late 2010. Stage 3 includes:
- an additional traffic lane in each direction (divided four lane road, two lanes each way)
- new road surface on all lanes
- new traffic signals at Sunbird Avenue, Matthew Flinders Drive and Tradewinds Avenue, co-ordinated for maximum peak traffic flows
- signalised pedestrian crossings at all signalised intersections
- provision for cyclists in shared cycle and parking lanes on both sides of the road
- upgraded street lighting along this road upgrade.
