Proserpine-Shute Harbour Road and Beach Road intersection upgrade project
Upgrading of the intersection of Proserpine-Shute Harbour Road and Beach Road in Cannonvale is currently underway.
The upgrade involves:
- Construction of a roundabout at Beach Road
- Four-laning of Proserpine-Shute Harbour Road between the existing four-lane section through Cannonvale and the Island Drive intersection
The roundabout has been designed to ensure that traffic from the adjacent residential and commercial areas can safely access Proserpine-Shute Harbour Road with minimal disruption to through traffic flow. To achieve this, the following changes will be implemented:
- Stewart Drive intersection will be limited to left-in/left-out/right-in movements
- Manooka Drive intersection will be limited to left-in/left-out movements
- Access to the service road on the northern side of Proserpine-Shute Harbour Road will be limited to left-in/left-out.
- U-turns will be permitted at the signals at Island Drive intersection for cars only. Heavy vehicles must turn into Island Drive and perform a u-turn at Eshelby Drive roundabout.
The final intersection layout can be viewed in the attachment below.

Asphalt works are currently scheduled for early November. Following this, construction of the medians and concreting of the roundabout can take place. The project is scheduled for completion prior to Christmas, weather permitting.
Motorists are asked to take care when travelling through the work site and follow directional signage and instructions from traffic controllers.
