Far North

This district covers the Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Tablelands, Torres Strait Island and Northern Peninsula Area regional councils, and Aurukun, Cook, Croydon, Etheridge and Torres shire councils, and Hopevale, Kowanyama, Lockhart River, Mapoon, Napranum, Pormpuraaw, Wujal Wujal and Yarrabah Aboriginal shire councils.

The district's boundaries extend from the top of Cardwell Range in the south, west to Croydon and north to include the island of the Torres Strait.

    From Tuesday, 15 April 2014, the bridge over Kelly St. George Creek, 72 kilometres north of Mt Molloy on Mulligan Highway, will be closed to all vehicles in excess of 42.5 tonnes.

    No permits are required for semi trailers up to 42.5 tonne. TMR will consider applications for permits for standard configurations of B-doubles and Type 1 road trains for emergency usage. No consideration will be given to loadings for excess mass vehicles.

    The bridge will be restricted to a single traffic lane only with a maximum width of 4.0 metres, with no overtaking or passing permitted.

    A temporary speed limit of 60 km/h will also be in place.

    The changed traffic conditions will remain in place until structural remedial works are complete
