Metropolitan

This district covers the local governments of Brisbane City, Lockyer Vallery Regional, Ipswich City and Redland City councils. The region is serviced by the Main Roads Brisbane and Ipswich Offices.

The district’s boundaries cover the greater Brisbane area from Redland Bay in the east through Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley in the west.

    BRACKEN RIDGE

    As part of the Gateway Upgrade North project, speed limits have been reduced to 80km/h between Nudgee and Bracken Ridge.

    Temporary single lane closures between 7pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday may also be in place at different locations throughout the length of the project.

  • PACIFIC MOTORWAY

    BRISBANE CITY

    Riverside Expressway rehabilitiation and maintenance works 2016.
    Commencing: 1 August 2016 11:00pm

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be carrying out rehabilitation and maintenance works on top and under the Riverside Expressway (REX) and Captain Cook Bridge.
    Timing:
    Night works are expected to be carried out on the Captain Cook Bridge from 11pm Monday 1 August 2016 to 5am Friday 12 August 2016, weather and construction conditions permitting.

    These works will require lane closures throughout the night..

    Night work is required for activities to avoid traffic congestion and ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists.

    What to expect during works:
    • minor traffic delays (reduced speed limits and lane closures) on REX and Captain Cook Bridge during night works

  • PACIFIC MOTORWAY

    BRISBANE CITY

    Riverside Expressway.
    Commencing: 04 January 2016 6:00am

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be carrying out rehabilitation and maintenance works on top and under the Riverside Expressway (REX) on the piers and the on and off ramps.
    Timing:
    Works are expected to be carried out from Sunday 4 January 2016 until late December 2016, weather and construction conditions permitting. Timings will be:
    • day works will be carried out Monday to Friday, between 6am and 6pm
    • night works will be carried out Sunday to Thursday, between 6pm and 6am
    • there will be some weekend works.

    From mid January to early June 2016, Monday to Thursday nights, between 7.30pm and 5am, works will be carried out on the REX and on and off-ramps including Alice Street, Margaret Street, Elizabeth Street, Ann Street and Turbot Street, Brisbane. This will include partial and full ramp closures during the works. Traffic diversions will be in place when required.

    Night work is required for some activities to avoid traffic congestion and ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists.

    What to expect during works:
    • minor traffic delays (reduced speed limits, partial lane closures) on REX during night works
    • the Bicentennial Bikeway under the REX will remain open during the works, however, cyclists may need to reduce speed and/or dismount from time to time
    • additional work lighting, dust and noise (machinery and reversing vehicle beepers)
    • traffic controllers and signage will be in place to ensure safety of road workers, cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.

  • ALLAWAH ROAD

    CHUWAR

    Mount Crosby Weir Bridge - changed traffic conditions.
    Commencing: 05 April 2016 1:22pm

    No delays expected. Changed traffic conditions.
    Traffic conditions along the Mount Crosby Weir Bridge will change from May 2015 as a precaution for the community in the interest of safety.

    A 9 tonne weight limit has been imposed on Mount Crosby Weir Bridge from 2 May 2015.

    The weight limit and 20kph speed limit for the bridge are required to protect public safety.

    Exceptions to the weight limit and speed cannot be made.

    Any vehicle that exceeds the 9 tonne weight limit should consider an alternative route.

    Changes to signage will be installed to inform the local community of these changes.

  • SANDGATE ROAD

    CLAYFIELD

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will begin the final stage of works to upgrade the Sandgate Road and Junction Road intersection from mid May 2016. Works are expected to be complete by the end of the year, weather and construction conditio.

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will begin the final stage of works to upgrade the Sandgate Road and Junction Road intersection from mid May 2016. Works are expected to be complete by the end of the year, weather and construction conditions permitting.

    Timing
    To minimise construction impacts, most of the works throughout this project will occur at night, from 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Friday.

    There may be occasional day works, between 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday.

    What does the upgrade involve?
    This project will improve the safety of the intersection for all road users, pedestrians and the local community. Works will include:
    • extending and improving turning lanes
    • upgrading traffic signals and signage
    • median works, road widening, asphalting and line marking
    • installing a new roundabout at Junction Road and Childs Street intersection to provide safer access to local businesses
    • median improvements will close right-turn access from Junction Road to businesses on the south-east corner of the intersection. (This will be implemented when alternative access via the new roundabout at Childs Street is completed)
    • installing a new zebra crossing and improving visibility for pedestrians
    • upgrading footpaths, fencing and landscaping
    • drainage works

    What to expect during works?
    For road workers’ safety and to maintain accesses to residents and businesses, there will be expected impacts to local traffic and residents arising from:
    • night works
    • minor traffic delays (reduced speed limits, temporary lane closures)
    • increased dust, fumes, noise and lights from machinery and reversing vehicles and activities on site.
    • vibration from equipment to be expected
    • changed access to local businesses
    The department will work with the construction contractor to minimise the impacts, where possible.

    Safety
    Traffic control will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians, motorists and road workers. Please follow the direction of roadside signs and traffic controls.

  • PARADISE ROAD

    Brisbane City Council is upgrading a section of Paradise Road, between Gardens Drive and Radius Drive, at Larapinta and Pallara, from Monday 20 June 2016 until early 2017.
    During these works, Paradise Road will be closed for all vehicle traffic between existing flood gates at Radius Drive and Gardens Drive.     Motorists are advised that nightworks will occur on the Ipswich Motorway eastbound off-ramp and roundabout at Oxley/Blunder roads, between 6pm and 4am from Sunday to Thursday starting the week 12 June 2016 and is expected to be completed by August 2016.
    These works will require reduced speeds and lane closures through the work zone. Short delays are expected. Drivers are reminded to be aware of changed conditions and follow traffic control direction.

  • WARREGO HIGHWAY

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is carrying out minor safery works along the Warrego Highway at various locations between Riverview and Marburg. These safety improvement works will increase safety for all road users
    Stage one of these works includes a site just east of the bridge over Bremer River and a second site near the Mt Cosby Rd interchange.
    Work will occur between July and October 2016, weather and construction conditions permitting. The standard hours for the project are from 7pm to 5am, Monday to Friday. However, for the safety of motorists and on-site workers, some works outside these times may be required.
    These minor works will include
    • road shoulder widening
    • installing guardrails/wire rope safety barriers
    Motorists may experience minor traffic delays and lane closures during the works. Traffic management including traffic control, lane and shoulder closures and signage will be in place where required to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists.

  • ROSEWOOD WARRILL VIEW ROAD

    Stage 1 works will occur from Late March until the end of May 2016, and Stage 2 works will occur from May until December 2016, weather and constructions conditions permitting.
    Construction will predominantly occur during the day from Monday to Friday between 6.00am and 6.00pm. Some works may also occur from time to time on weekends for the safety of road workers and motorists.
    Stage 1 of these safety improvements include:
    Replacing headwalls as required;
    Installing new headwalls;
    Culvert widening;
    Signage improvement;
    Tree removal.
    Stage 2 of these safety improvement works include:
    Guardrail installation;
    Culvert widening;
    Drainage improvement.
    Motorists may experience minor traffic delays and lane closures during the works. There will also be temporary reductions in the speed limit. Traffic control will be in place to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists. There will be some construction noise and dust associated with these works. However, TMR will make every effort to minimise disruptions throughout the duration of this project.

    Brisbane City Council wishes to advise that during the period of the Royal Queensland Show 2016 (5-14 August) traffic flow in and around the RNA Showgrounds will be affected by road closures, revised street and signage and parking arrangements.
    * Gregory Terrace between Costin and Brookes Street and King St between Gregory Tce and Market Way will be closed from 4.00am Wednesday 27th July until 10pm Thursday 18 August, 2016.

    * Entry to Exhibition Street will be from Brookes Street (left turn only) into Gregory Terrace and into Exhibition Street.

    The Brisbane Lions v Port Adelaide Power AFL game will be held at the Gabba on the 30th July 2016 from 7:25 pm. Traffic congestion may be experienced on Stanley St, Vulture St, and Ipswich Rd from 6:25pm on match day.

    Motorists on the Pacific Motorway may also experience congestion from this time at the northbound Stanley St exit 2 and Stanley St onramp and southbound across the Captain Cook Bridge to the Vulture St exit 2 and Stanley St onramp.

    Road closures will be in place approximately 45 minutes before the end of the event on Stanley St, Main St and Vulture St. Motorists attending the event should also be aware of the 15 minute parking restriction that applies to the Gabba Traffic Area on match days.

    Brisbane City Council wishes to advise that due to the staging of this years Brisbane Marathon on Sunday 7th August, various road and lane closures shall be in place between the hours of 4am and 1pm in the CBD, Kangaroo Point, West End and South Brisbane areas.
    CBD closures in the vicinity of Alice and Edward Streets shall be in place between the hours of 4am and 8am.
    Kangaroo Point closures in the vicinity of Main St and Holman St shall be in place between the hours of 5.30am and 10.00am.
    South Brisbane and West End closures in the vicinity of Lower River Tce, Riverside Dr and Montague Rd shall be in place between the hours of 6.30am and 12 midday.
    Closures shall be under the control of the QLD Police Services and Licenced Traffic Controllers.
