This district covers the local governments of Brisbane City, Lockyer Vallery Regional, Ipswich City and Redland City councils. The region is serviced by the Main Roads Brisbane and Ipswich Offices.

The district’s boundaries cover the greater Brisbane area from Redland Bay in the east through Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley in the west.

  • GATEWAY MOTORWAY

    BRACKEN RIDGE

    As part of the Gateway Upgrade North project, speed limits have been reduced to 80km/h between Nudgee and Bracken Ridge.

    Temporary single lane closures between 7pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday may also be in place at different locations throughout the length of the project.

  • PACIFIC MOTORWAY

    The Department of Transport and Maun Roads (TMR) will be carrying out rehabilitation and maintenance works on top and under the Riverside Expressway (REX) on and off ramps.
    Timing:
    Works are expected to be carried out over the following dates and locations, weather and conditions permitting:
    • Ann Street southbound on ramp, Tuesday 26 April 2016 to Thursday 28 April 2016 between 9pm and 5am.
    • Herschel Street northbound off ramp, Tuesday 3 May 2016 to Thursday 5 may 2016 between 9pm and 5am
    • Elizabeth Street northbound on ramp, Sunday 8 May 2016 to Thursday 12 May 2016 between 9am to 5am
    • Turbot Street northbound off ramp, Sunday 15 May 2016 to Thursday 19 May 2016 9pm to 5am
    • Ann Street northbound on ramp, Sunday 22 May 2016 to Thursday 26 May 2016, between 9pm and 5 am
    These works will require full ramp closures, with detours in place.
    Night works is required for activities to avoid traffic congestion and ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorist.
    What to expect during works:
    • Minor traffic delays( reduced speed limits, detours) on REX during night works
    • The Bicentennial Bikeway under the REX will remain open during works, however, cyclists may need to reduce speed and /or dismount from time to time
    Please follow the direction of roadside signage and traffic controllers.

  • PACIFIC MOTORWAY

    Riverside Expressway.
    Commencing: 04 January 2016 6:00am

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be carrying out rehabilitation and maintenance works on top and under the Riverside Expressway (REX) on the piers and the on and off ramps.
    Timing:
    Works are expected to be carried out from Sunday 4 January 2016 until late December 2016, weather and construction conditions permitting. Timings will be:
    • day works will be carried out Monday to Friday, between 6am and 6pm
    • night works will be carried out Sunday to Thursday, between 6pm and 6am
    • there will be some weekend works.

    From mid January to early June 2016, Monday to Thursday nights, between 7.30pm and 5am, works will be carried out on the REX and on and off-ramps including Alice Street, Margaret Street, Elizabeth Street, Ann Street and Turbot Street, Brisbane. This will include partial and full ramp closures during the works. Traffic diversions will be in place when required.

    Night work is required for some activities to avoid traffic congestion and ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists.

    What to expect during works:
    • minor traffic delays (reduced speed limits, partial lane closures) on REX during night works
    • the Bicentennial Bikeway under the REX will remain open during the works, however, cyclists may need to reduce speed and/or dismount from time to time
    • additional work lighting, dust and noise (machinery and reversing vehicle beepers)
    • traffic controllers and signage will be in place to ensure safety of road workers, cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.

  • FINUCANE ROAD

    CAPALABA

    Road upgrade works are occuring on Finucane Road (Capalaba and Alexandra Hills).

    Night works will run for up to 20 nights from early April 2016 to late May 2016, (weather, site and construction conditions permitting).

    Work will occur from 7pm to 5am between Sunday and Thursday. The location of works will vary and at times no work may be occurring on various sections of the road.

    Motorists travelling inbound and outbound may be affected by single lane closures, detours and minor traffic delays.

  • ALLAWAH ROAD

    CHUWAR

    Mount Crosby Weir Bridge - changed traffic conditions.

    No delays expected. Changed traffic conditions.
    Traffic conditions along the Mount Crosby Weir Bridge will change from May 2015 as a precaution for the community in the interest of safety.

    A 9 tonne weight limit has been imposed on Mount Crosby Weir Bridge from 2 May 2015.

    The weight limit and 20kph speed limit for the bridge are required to protect public safety.

    Exceptions to the weight limit and speed cannot be made.

    Any vehicle that exceeds the 9 tonne weight limit should consider an alternative route.

    Changes to signage will be installed to inform the local community of these changes.

  • SANDGATE ROAD

    CLAYFIELD

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will begin the final stage of works to upgrade the Sandgate Road and Junction Road intersection from mid May 2016. Works are expected to be complete by the end of the year, weather and construction conditio.

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will begin the final stage of works to upgrade the Sandgate Road and Junction Road intersection from mid May 2016. Works are expected to be complete by the end of the year, weather and construction conditions permitting.

    Timing
    To minimise construction impacts, most of the works throughout this project will occur at night, from 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Friday.

    There may be occasional day works, between 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday.

    What does the upgrade involve?
    This project will improve the safety of the intersection for all road users, pedestrians and the local community. Works will include:
    • extending and improving turning lanes
    • upgrading traffic signals and signage
    • median works, road widening, asphalting and line marking
    • installing a new roundabout at Junction Road and Childs Street intersection to provide safer access to local businesses
    • median improvements will close right-turn access from Junction Road to businesses on the south-east corner of the intersection. (This will be implemented when alternative access via the new roundabout at Childs Street is completed)
    • installing a new zebra crossing and improving visibility for pedestrians
    • upgrading footpaths, fencing and landscaping
    • drainage works

    What to expect during works?
    For road workers’ safety and to maintain accesses to residents and businesses, there will be expected impacts to local traffic and residents arising from:
    • night works
    • minor traffic delays (reduced speed limits, temporary lane closures)
    • increased dust, fumes, noise and lights from machinery and reversing vehicles and activities on site.
    • vibration from equipment to be expected
    • changed access to local businesses
    The department will work with the construction contractor to minimise the impacts, where possible.

    Safety
    Traffic control will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians, motorists and road workers. Please follow the direction of roadside signs and traffic controls.

  • GAZA ROAD

    HOLLAND PARK WEST

    Gaza Rd Embankment Works.
    Commencing: 1 June 2016 7:00pm

    Delays expected. Changed traffic conditions.
    Maintenance work is occurring on the embankment structures under the Pacific Motorway on Gaza Road from early June to the end of June 2016 for approximately four weeks, weather and construction conditions permitting.
    Maintenance work will also be carried out on bridge joints on the Pacific Motorway over Gaza Road, Holland Park West.
    Work will generally be carried out between 7pm and 5am. Changed traffic conditions include minor traffic delays, lane closures, pedestrian detours, reduced speed limits and traffic control.

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) plans to undertake some safety improvement works along the Samford Road and Irvine Road intersection at Mitchelton, to repair the fallen batter slope/retaining wall to provide a safer footpath for pedestrians and road users.

    These works are scheduled to begin mid May 2016 and are expected to continue until the end of June 2016.

    Works will go ahead at night time, between 6:00pm and 5.00am, Monday to Thursday, weather and construction conditions permitting.


    Planned night works will include:
    • Removal of the fallen batter slope/retaining wall from the footpath.
    • Excavation and concrete removal works.
    • Construction and landscaping of a new batter slope/retaining wall at this location.


    Impact on stakeholders:
    There will be some construction noise, lighting and dust associated with these works. However, TMR will make every effort to minimise disruptions throughout the duration of this project.

    There will be limited access to the existing footpath during the hours of construction. A temporary footpath will provide access for pedestrians during the day time.

    There will be minimal impacts to road users – the westbound left lane of Samford Road will be closed during the hours of construction. Traffic control and signage will be in place where required.

    As part of the Gateway Upgrade North project, works are being undertaken to install and connect new electricity power poles between Nudgee interchange and Nundah Creek.
    Every hour between 7pm and 5am from 16 to 27 May there will approximately 15 minute temporary full closures of the motorway in both directions at a time to allow Energex to undertake work. These closures will occur between 16 and 21 May and on 26 May. All other times there will be reduced speed limits in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

    Stage 1 works will occur from Late March until the end of May 2016, and Stage 2 works will occur from May until December 2016, weather and constructions conditions permitting.
    Construction will predominantly occur during the day from Monday to Friday between 6.00am and 6.00pm. Some works may also occur from time to time on weekends for the safety of road workers and motorists.
    Stage 1 of these safety improvements include:
    Replacing headwalls as required;
    Installing new headwalls;
    Culvert widening;
    Signage improvement;
    Tree removal.
    Stage 2 of these safety improvement works include:
    Guardrail installation;
    Culvert widening;
    Drainage improvement.
    Motorists may experience minor traffic delays and lane closures during the works. There will also be temporary reductions in the speed limit. Traffic control will be in place to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists. There will be some construction noise and dust associated with these works. However, TMR will make every effort to minimise disruptions throughout the duration of this project.

    The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is carrying out rehabilitation works to improve safety and durability of the rail bridge on Riawena Road at Salisbury.

    These works will occur between Sunday and Thursday, 6pm to 5am from 18 April to the end of May 2016, weather and construction condition permitting.

    Motorists can expect minor traffic delays due to reduced speed limits and changed traffic conditions.

    The Brisbane Broncos v West Tiger NRL game will be held at Suncorp Stadium on Friday the 27th of May 2016 from 7:45 pm

    Major roads closed for an hour following the game:
    • Roma St inbound will be closed between Skew Street and Turbot Street.
    • Petrie Terrace closed between Milton Road and Caxton Street, excepting local traffic.
    • Milton Road closed inbound between Park Road and Petrie Terrace and
    • Caxton Street closed between Hale Street and Petrie Terrace.
    Coronation Drive and Hale St will remain open at all times. Re-directional signs will be placed on the major routes approaching the Stadium.
    Minor Roads closed for an hour following the game are:
    • Cribb Street between Railway Terrace and Milton Road.
    • Paten Street, Black Street, Granzella Street.
    Minor roads closed for 2½ hours before and 1 hour following the game are:
    • Castlemaine Street, Chippendall Street, Finchley Street, Mayneview Street, Parkview Street and Cordova Street.
    Motorists attending the event should also be aware of the 15 minute parking restriction that applies to the Suncorp Traffic Area on match days.

    The Brisbane Lions v Hawthorn Hawks AFL match will be held at the Gabba on Saturday 28th May from 1:45pm. Traffic congestion may be experienced on Stanley St, Vulture St, and Ipswich Rd from 12:15pm on match day.
    Motorists on the Pacific Motorway may also experience congestion from this time at the northbound Stanley St exit 2 and Stanley St onramp and southbound across the
    Captain Cook Bridge to the Vulture St exit, exit 2, Stanley St onramp and Main St.
    Road closures will be in place approximately 45 minutes before the end of the event
    on Stanley St and Vulture St. Motorists attending the event should also be
    aware of the 15 minute parking restriction that applies to the Gabba Traffic Area on match days.
